Stripe Billing supports proration, usage-based pricing, and complex plan changes natively. PayPal's subscription tooling is comparatively thin; Braintree sits in between but requires more custom logic for the same outcomes.
Stripe's API design and documentation quality remain a meaningful advantage for engineering velocity — this compounds over the life of a product, not just at initial integration.
